Brazos Valley Kennel Club is committed to educating not only its members but also the community.
In 2017, our kennel club participated in new program offered by the Girl Scouts of America and AKC that allows girl scouts to earn a dog show patch and had over 75 girls visit with us during our show weekend. Through the program, children met dogs and handlers and learned about the seven AKC breed groups, events at an AKC dog show, responsible dog ownership, canine care, and much more. The AKC provided program packets for the children to complete throughout their day as well as a tip sheet for the parents or troop leaders to help the children. Upon completion of the packet, the children earned an AKC Dog Show Patch.
When the opportunity arises, the Brazos Valley Kennel Club enjoys giving back to the community. We are grateful to our first responders and the efforts they go through to keep us and our pets safe. In the past, we have used money raised from our raffle to donate back to the students association at the Blinn EMS program for providing us with wonderful volunteers at our annual dog show. Additionally, in 2017 we donated 11 pet oxygen mask kits to all of the Brazos County Volunteer Fire Department houses and one pet oxygen mask kit to Robertson County EMS. KBTX-TV3 Story
